EcoEternity Green Burial Concept and Forest Cemetery

EcoEternity Forests - in Germany called FriedWald®

In 2000, the concept of the EcoEternity Forest was introduced in Germany by FriedWald GmbH, a Darmstadt based company. In November 2001 the first FriedWald was opened in the Reinhardswald, close to the town of Kassel. Since then the number of forests has expanded rapidly, and FriedWald GmbH has established many Eco forests across the country (see www.friedwald.de).

The success of FriedWald GmbH has inspired many forest owners to copy the concept. Although no official number of forest interments exists, professional sources estimated approximately 10,000 Eco burials in 2006. The growth rate of Eco interments is estimated to be at least 100% per annum. Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung published in July 2007 a market survey conducted by Aeternitas Association showing 1/3 of the German population preferred Eco interments over traditional cemetery burials.
