EcoEternity Forest at Makemie Woods
The Retreat Center, Summer Camp, and camping utilize only a portion of the 275 acres that constitutes the grounds of Makemie Woods Camp and Conference Center.
A large portion of the forest is relatively undisturbed by regular camp activities. These maturing forests are beautiful to walk through.
Seeing is Believing - come on out and visit our forest!

275 Acres of beautiful Forest surrounded by a beautiful reservoir
For over 45 years, the Makemie Woods forest has provided a spiritual place for retreats and a vital Christian summer camp program. Since only parts of the forest are central to these activities, a large portion of the forest has been allowed to mature in a natural state. Sign up for a nature walk and you will see a large variety of indigenous trees such as Tulip Poplars, Beeches, and various Oaks. In the Spring, the Dogwood and Laurel are prolific and beautiful.
Implementing a natural burial place seemed more than natural to Director of Makemie Woods Mike Burcher when she first learned about the idea.
Mike Burcher: “Makemie Woods has been a place set apart for over 45 years, where people of all ages have grown in faith and developed a greater appreciation for creation. In recent years we have emphasized environmental and global awareness. We are delighted to expand this ministry so the larger community can experience the joy and peace of this forest, and help to preserve it and the memories of their loved ones for another century to come”.
